Monthly Korea Travel Outfit Guide: Weather, Tips & Style by Month (Jan–Dec)

Korea has four distinct seasons. Winter is so cold that even a thick padded coat isn’t always enough, and in summer it can be so hot that going out in a T‑shirt is exhausting. What you wear depends a lot on when you visit.

Weather this month

January is midwinter and usually the coldest month. In Seoul, average temps are around -5°C to 2°C, and it can drop below -10°C around dawn. It’s often dry and windy, so it feels even colder. Jeju and Busan are relatively warmer (still cold), while Gangwon and northern Gyeonggi are colder with more snow.

What to watch for

  • Cold-wave advisories are common—check the forecast.
  • Indoors, subways, and buses are well heated, so layers you can take off work best.
  • Hands, ears, and neck get cold easily—bring warm accessories.

Weather this month

February is still midwinter. A bit milder than January but Seoul is around -2°C to 5°C. Lunar New Year (Seollal) falls in this period, so roads and transport are very busy. It’s often dry and clear; snow and ice can make pavements slippery.

What to watch for

  • For Seollal, book KTX, buses, and flights early—they sell out.
  • Mornings and evenings are cold—dress warmly.
  • Non-slip shoes are safer.

March is early spring. Daytime can reach around 10°C but mornings and evenings are still near 0°C. “Spring cold” snaps are common, and it’s often windy. Temperatures rise toward the end of the month.

What to watch for

  • Big temperature swings—always have an outer layer.
  • Wind can be chilly—a windbreaker or light padded jacket helps.
